Oh hey! I'm Shruti

I am South Indian by lineage, West Indian by heritage, a multilingual product designer currently living and working in Ireland.

To live, I read. More consciously now than before. Presently, I am re-reading The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. It's a book that can be read in a day, and I am re-reading it again since I found that it spoke to me, and I have much to learn and emulate from it. I found this book as part of a list of good books that can be read in a day. Other books in the list are here.

To live, I also cook, and recently discovered my passion for precision baking. Here's an amazing banana bread recipe (no mixer, weighed ingredients) I personally tried!

To live, I also watch old Malayalam (a south indian language spoken by 35-40 million people worldwide) films, sci-fi English films (Interstellar is a personal commercial favourite), comedy Korean TV shows, along with many other foreign language films and shows.

To live, I am beginning to enjoy learning things with no intention of using them to be productive, like learning languages. As of now, I speak four languages fluently - English, Malayalam (my native tongue), Hindi, and Marathi. I also understand two more - Tamil, Korean (which I can read and write as well).

I moved to Ireland with the intention of pursuing a Master's in Human-Computer Interaction. However, the staggeringly low AQI here held me back. It's funny how desirable clear blue skies and lack of air pollution can be.

To live, I work too. To work, I started as a graphic designer and a year in, I found my footing in the world of user experience design. I find joy in solving puzzles, anticipating problems which come to me naturally as a part of my personality that enjoys preparedness. This natural trait makes me curious about people, their choices and how they navigate our digital world. An Indian comedian, Kanan Gill, rightfully pointed out how different people use and interact differently with technology. Watch his funny yet observant take here.

Finally, during my time working with people, I noticed we all seem to have at least one unexpected hidden talent. Mine? I have a strangely sharp memory for numbers. I still remember my very first phone number and my dad’s, too!

What about you? Any hidden talents? I’d love to hear them here.
